Noel Gallagher’s has said he would rather reform Oasis than have ‘lunatic’Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister – to the fury of the leader of Momentum.

The former Oasis star, 51, has endured an infamous public spat with his brother Liam, which is why the British rock band split up.

When asked on Alan Brazil’s talkSPORT show if he would rather reunite with Oasis or see Corbyn elected as the country’s leader, Gallagher said: ‘I’d have to get the band back together, I think. I don’t want that lunatic running the country.’

Noel Gallagher was asked whether he would rather reform Oasis or for Jeremy Corbyn to become the next Prime Minister

Jon Lanslan, the leader of Momentum, the far-left activist group which has thrown its support behind Corbyn to become Prime Minister, attacked Gallagher on social media.

The ‘Lifelong Labour Leftie’, who was educated at the £21,000-a-year Highgate School, wrote on Twitter: ‘Your working class hero days are over Noel. You’re just another Blur now.’

He was not the only left-wing political figure to take aim at the Manchester singer.

Former Labour MP George Galloway also blasted Gallagher on Twitter.

He wrote: ‘Noel Gallagher enjoyed everything the socialisation of services could provide – but now he’s a multimillionaire. Miraculously like St Paul on the road to Damascus he has experienced a truly wondrous change of heart. It is a conversion on the road to Chalfont St Giles.’

Noel Gallagher’s comments drew strong criticism from left wing figures, including Jon Lansman and George Galloway

Corbyn’s loyal supporters were also outraged by Gallagher’s comments.

The official Momentum group tweeted: ‘Right. Because closing tax loopholes for the ultra-rich and wanting to end homelessness makes you a “lunatic”.’

Angela tweeted: ‘Just saying my estamation on Noel Gallagher has gone consideralby down after dissing Jeremy Corbyn.’

Aleix Gwilliam tweeted: ‘Well, Noel Gallagher can f*** right off. Sanctimonious p**** hasn’t got a clue what he’s talking about. I’ve listened to my last Oasis song. Twat #Corbyn.’

Noel Gallagher has previously taken aim at Corbyn in the past, and was a big fan of the New Labour movement at the time

Dean James added: ‘You’d reform Oasis to stop Jeremy Corbyn becoming PM, but not for the victims of the Manchester terror attack, @NoelGallagher? Says it all, you sad twat. I wouldn’t if I was you, @liamgallagher.’

Gallagher’s comments did receive some praise online, despite a large backlash from left-wing supporters.

Oli Ashy wrote: ‘Noel Gallagher is more working class and a man of the people than Corbyn will ever be.’

Conservative Cllr Sam Currie wrote: ‘Noel Gallagher when asked if he would rather Corbyn become PM or reform Oasis: I’d have to get the band back together, I think. I don’t want that lunatic running the country. I think we can all agree on one thing: we wish #Corbyn and his gang would slide away.’
