A powerful new weapon which induces vomiting among enemy combatants has been installed on Russian warships.
The 5P-42 Filin can blind its targets, cause delirious conditions and make them want to be sick.
The dazzler device has been fitted on two huge Russian Navy frigates, the Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov.
The Filin – meaning Eagle Owl – can also fire a strobe-like beam that disrupts an opponent’s eyesight.
It’s intended to hinder the opponent’s ability to aim a weapon at night and suppress ships’ laser distance sensors.
During testing, volunteers used assault rifles, sniper rifles, and machine guns to shoot targets placed up to 2 km (1.24 miles) away and protected by the device. They all had trouble aiming because they "couldn’t see the target," local media says.
And 45% of the volunteers in Vladimir Putin’s country reported feeling dizzy, nauseous, and disoriented.
Some 20% reported to have experienced hallucinations, described as "a ball of light moving in front of [our] eyes."
The Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Kasatonov, which are both part of Russia’s Northern Fleet that patrols the Arctic Ocean, are state of the art warships launched in the past ten years.
Two new frigates, currently under construction, are also expected to be fitted with the device.
It comes after the powerful Russian Navy intercepted a US military surveillance plane near the Baltic Sea border.
The Russian Su-27 fighter then attempted to warn off the American reconnaissance aircraft P-8A Poseidon.
And last week, a Russian bomber plane was blown apart and engulfed in flames.
It then crashed in a heavy blizzard in the Arctic, killing three crew members.
