FURIOUS pensioners are at war with neighbours of 27 years over six inches of land that divides their homes.
Anne Hilton, 78, and husband Derick, 82, claimed next-door neighbours in Willerby, East Riding of Yorkshire, shrunk their driveway by adding a seven-foot high fence for an extension.
But the angry OAPs say it doesn’t follow an agreed boundary and vowed they are not “going to take it lying down”.
Anne said: “I was angry and distressed when I realised what had happened. I was shocked to my core.
"We’ve always been good neighbours over the years, fantastic in fact, but the fence needed replacing because it was deteriorating.
"It sounds petty, but it is just not right. We’ve had sleepless nights over this."
The feud comes a day after it was reported a couple faced having their £650,000 home repossessed in a row over a fence.
We are not letting this lie, but we would like to do this peacefully
Ron and Wendy Long were taken to court by neighbour Diana Lambeth after they objected to workmen tearing down a hedge and replacing it with a fence.
Anne and Derick say the new fence at their property is not following a boundary line agreed with their neighbours.
Posts for the new fence jutted out onto their property by six inches, they claim.
Their neighbours, who have lived there for 27 years, are adamant they tried to resolve the problem with the couple.
FENCE FURY
Anne said: “We feel our neighbours have not respected us because of our elderly age.
"But we are not letting this lie, but we would like to do this peacefully."
She added: "If we can avoid it getting really, really nasty – we obviously will."
The neighbour building the fence called the turf dispute “disappointing” and rejected the couple's claims.
He said: “We are not grabbing any land, we don’t need to – we already have a lot of space as you can see.
"All we want is a straight line for our fence to go across and we have not asked Anne and Derick for a penny towards the cost.
“It’s sad that after 27 years of being good neighbours that is has come down to this."
