Sixty per cent have received offensive, graphic or insulting messages.
Some were sent explicit images and one in six said someone posted private pics online without consent.
Nearly one in three had received repeated messages that made them fear for their safety.
The poll found that 57 per cent of woman aged 18 to 24 had been harassed on Facebook and 47 per cent aged 25 to 34.
About half reported the harassment to the social media giant but one in three said they were told the content did not violate the site’s guidelines.
A further one in five got no response at all.
Some 1,016 Facebook users were polled by The Sunday Times and feminist group Level Up.
The group’s Carys Afoko said the network was not “moving fast enough to keep women safe”. She added it was time bosses “listened to women instead of algorithms”.
Facebook said it does not allow bullying, harassment, risk of physical harm or threats to safety and removes content and works with police when made aware of issues.
