Terrifying moment hammer-wielding robber attacks G4S security guard in front of horrified Christmas shoppers before making off with fistfuls of cash

A hammer-wielding robber was caught on CCTV attacking a security guard in front of horrified Christmas shoppers before making off with the cash.

The footage shows a black GLA Mercedes pull up next to a G4S security van which was doing a cash collection at Go Outdoors in Derby at 12pm on Monday.

As the security guard walks towards the van carrying the cash box, one of the criminals jumps out of the rear passenger door.

The guard sprints away as the robber threatens them with a hammer and is chased around the car park.

The video shows the guard flee the robber with the cash box still in his hand.

The balaclava-wearing thief is seen signalling to his accomplices to help before the guard is caught.

The security guard then flees with the cash box still in his hand and is chased by the balaclava-wearing robber (above), who pulls up next to the van in a black Mercedes 

The robber can be seen holding a hammer while chasing the security guard around the car park. The security guard still has the cash box in his hand 

The hammer-wielding robber appears to signal to his accomplices to help before the guard is caught and drops the cash box, with the robber using a hammer to smash it open

He eventually drops the box and scrambles away, with the robber using a hammer to smash it open before fleeing with fistfuls of cash.

The car then speeds off before it is dumped one-and-a-half miles away and the criminals switch cars to a red Mercedes.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: ‘The black Mercedes turned left out of the Go Outdoors store and travelled down Ascot Drive at speed.

‘A short time later the black Mercedes was dumped in Cotton Lane and the pair got into an older, red coloured Mercedes.

Derbyshire Police wish to speak with anyone who witnessed the attack, particularly those who may have dash cam footage that captured the incident 

‘Detectives investigating the incident want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the incident.

‘Of particular interest are any drivers who were in the area at the time and have dash cam that may have captured either the black or red Mercedes.

‘Detectives also wish to speak to a couple who witnessed the incident and spoke to the security guard, who suffered minor injuries in the incident.’
