Heartwarming moment postman delivers 2,500 birthday cards and gifts for girl, 10, who battled leukaemia after her mother’s Facebook plea

A little girl was left speechless when her postman delivered 2,500 cards and parcels for her 10th birthday after celebrating five years in remission from cancer.
Abbie Paice, from Chartham, Kent, was left in awe when her postman Jon Giles arrived on her doorstep on Saturday with a van full of gifts and cards addressed to her.
Her mother Lisah-Jayne Paice, 37, posted a plea on Facebook three weeks ago after Abbie had been unwell but was cheered up by the arrival of a card with her name on.
The heartwarming video sees postman Jon knock on the door to the house before Abbie along with two other children open the door.

Jon asks: ‘Are you Abbie? Was it your birthday yesterday? ‘Well that explains why we have been so busy! All of these are for you, just for you.’
The postman hands over two giant grey sacks full of cards and parcels adding: ‘You have got one bag there and another bag there.’
‘Normally when I have got my van I deliver to the whole area – about 500 houses. But today I am just coming to your house because my van and it is all for you.’

He adds: ‘Do you want to come and have a look? You can all come.’
Jon opens up the doors to the Royal Mail van which sees boxes full of cards and sacks filled with gifts as a speechless Abbie takes in the overwhelming sight.
‘We have never, ever seen so many cards and presents for one person. All of these are all addressed to you.
‘You are welcome. Now all we have got to do is get it indoors.’

Lisah-Jane posted to Facebook on November 11 to explain how Abbie along with her parents visited The Royal Marsden Hospital which specialises in cancer treatment.
She revealed how Abbie was set to undergo a lumber puncture, bone marrow aspiration and a brain pressure test.
Lisah-Jayne revealed how Abbie ‘absolutely loves receiving post addressed to her’ and asked people to message for her address if they wanted to send a note in the post.

Abbie was initially diagnosed with leukaemia aged two and recently celebrated five years in remission.
However she received multiple doses of chemotherapy between 2012 and 2015 and has suffered some after effects.
Her brain is scarred and pressure builds up in her head which causes tiredness and headaches and may be linked to excess spinal fluid, although the cause is still under investigation by doctors.
She has missed a lot of school after being unwell and has also been in and out of hospital, undergoing a lumbar puncture to determine the cause of her malaise.

However Lisah-Jayne told how the arrival of Jon the postman lifted Abbie’s spirits.
‘The best thing was seeing her enjoy herself again,’ Lisah-Jayne said of the arrival of the presents.
‘She had seemed so sad lately but we saw the light back in her eyes for the first time in a while.’
Postman Jon said he was chuffed by Abbie’s reaction and added: ‘It’s safe to say the appeal went viral and it’s been incredible to watch the cards and gifts roll in this week.
‘I was lovely to play a small part in such a brave little girl’s big day.’
Faversham Delivery Office manager, Paul Holland, said: ‘In all my time working for Royal Mail I have never seen so many cards and parcels addressed to just one person before.’

In a letter to Abbie he added: ‘I have had to send out a special van just for your house this morning. You must be a very special little girl.
‘I really hope the cards and presents we have received for you from all over the world help make your birthday extra special.’
The Paice family is now funding for their local hospital, the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
