Lorry driver on the M62 using Lucozade bottle as make-shift indicator

Police stop a lorry driver on the M62 after spotting he was using a Lucozade bottle taped to the back bumper as a make-shift indicator

  • Driver cut the Lucozade bottle into shape and taped it to vehicle’s rear indicator
  • HGV also over its weight limit, had broken brake light and cracked wing mirror
  • Police fined the motorist after stopping him on the busy M62 near Bradford  

A reckless lorry driver was spotted using a Lucozade bottle as an indicator on a busy motorway.

The motorist was stopped by officers on the packed M62 near Bradford on Sunday in the HGV which also had a cracked wing mirror, broken break light and was over the weight limit.

The driver, who had cut the fizzy drinks bottle into shape and taped it to the vehicle’s left rear indicator, was banned from moving until the weight issue was sorted and fined by officers.

A West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing officer, known as Traffic Dave on Twitter, said the ‘driver was fined and prohibited from moving until the weight issue was sorted’.

He posted: ‘HGV sighted on the #M62 near #Bradford this afternoon which attracted our attention.

‘A tad overweight. A Lucozade bottle for an indicator.

A West Yorkshire Police Roads Policing officer, known as Traffic Dave on Twitter, said the ‘driver was fined and prohibited from moving until the weight issue was sorted’

When asked what punishment the driver received, the officer quipped: ‘Hydration and lots of energy!’

And James Moran replied: ‘Guess the driver did at least make the effort to use a drinks bottle close to the required colour!!’

Another user joked: ‘Did you ask the driver to ‘pop’ down to the station for a quick interview?….. It’s OK I’m going.’
