Lincoln city bomb scare – Bag of SHOPPING sparks major incident with town centre placed on lockdown

Lincoln was plunged into travel chaos with no buses or trains stopping after a suspicious package was found on the bus.

But an investigation by the bomb squad revealed the bag was a "bit of shopping with electronics in it".

East Midlands Ambulance Service today sent out a specialist team that deals with major incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear or other hazardous materials.

And the bomb squad were sent to Lincoln Central bus station where the package was found just before midday.

A huge cordon was put in place and both the bus station and the train station were closed.

East Midlands Trains advised passengers not to travel to and from Lincoln while cops investigated.

Lincoln County Hospital also tweeted that patients' appointments would be re-arranged as they were also affected by the lockdown.

They said: "Lincoln is currently gridlocked due to the bomb scare at the Bus Station.

"If you have an appointment today and can get here we will still see you. If you cannot make it we will be in touch to reappoint you."

The bomb scare is the third such incident in the last 12 months.
