Labour MP forced to apologise to JK Rowling for accusing her of exploiting her sex attack ordeal in trans rights row

A LABOUR frontbencher was forced to apologise to JK Rowling for accusing her of exploiting her sex attack ordeal in a trans rights row.

The Harry Potter author accepted shadow environment minister Lloyd Russell-Moyle’s grovelling plea.

But she warned him to “dig a little deeper than hashtags and slogans”.

She added: “Increasing numbers of people are deeply concerned about Labour’s position on women’s rights.”

Mr Lloyd-Russell had accused her of “using her own sexual assault” to justify her views on transgender issues in a magazine article.

But he was forced to retract the claim after it sparked a huge backlash.

He said: “It was wrong of me to suggest that she used her own dreadful experience in anything other than good faith.”
