The self-proclaimed ‘King of Instagram’ Dan Bilzerian is wanted by Azerbaijan authorities who have issued a warrant for his arrest.
The warrant was issued just hours after Bilzerian became an Armenian citizen and joined the countries armed forces
It has been reported that Bilzerian is wanted for visiting Nagorno Karabakh, a region that is the subject of a conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan is trying to put the professional poker player on an Interpol wanted list after the social media star posted footage on his Instagram account, where he has nearly 24 million followers.
In the video clip, the Florida-born millionaire is seen firing various weapons and driving armoured vehicles in a mountainous region. Bilzerian wrote: "First day as Armenian citizen."
The video received just under two million ‘likes’ in the first two days of publication.
However, it also appears to have landed the 37-year-old playboy in hot water with Azerbaijan authorities, who claim the footage was filmed in the landlocked region of Nagorno Karabakh.
The disputed territory, internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan, is mostly governed by the Republic of Artsakh, a de facto independent state with an Armenian majority.
The primary language of the region is also Armenian.
According to local media, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan has accused the American poker player of ‘illegally acquiring grenades, a gun and other firearms and demonstratively opening fire" in the disputed region.
This happened shortly after the 37-year-old reportedly registered with the Armenian Armed Forces after becoming a citizen.
A source in the Azerbaijan government told Armenian Public Radio that “Interpol will search for the criminal.”
The Military Commissariat confirmed Bilzerian’s registration and said that the social media star submitted all necessary documents for the application.
The ‘King of Instagram’ is the son of Paul Bilzerian, a corporate takeover specialist of Armenian descent.
