Kate Middleton puts loving arm around Wills in 'Meghan Markle-style' show of affection at Christmas party bash

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a festive bash this afternoon, inviting families of serving military personnel to Kensington Palace to thank them for their unique contribution.

The couple – both aged 36 – seemed in good spirits as they hosted the bash for the families of deployed personnel from RAF Coningsby and RAF Marham.

And while the parents are normally reserved during public appearances, Kate put a comforting arm around her husband as they spoke this afternoon.

It's an out of character show of affection – one that is normally shown by the more relaxed newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

But Kate seemed in high spirits as she threw the Christmas party, beaming by her husband's side.

Kate looked particularly festive in a red tartan skirt by Emilia Wickstead, with her top by Scottish cashmere firm Brora.

Today's Christmas event is supported by The Royal British Legion, marking the contributions serving personnel and their families daily.

It is particularly to thank them for their sacrifice of being apart during the festive period.

Today's party even included a visit from Santa Claus, as well as snowflakes blown into the sky as the Duke and Duchess walked in.

Prince William also got into the spirit, learning how to make crackers with some of the children at the party.

The heir is Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, which is home to Typhoon squadron.

The group is currently deployeded in Cyprus in support of Op SHADER.

Tomorrow, the Duke and Duchess will fly to RAK Akrotiri in Cyprus to meet with serving personnel.

RAF Marham have 31 Squadron, who are also contributing to OP SHADER.

Other entertainment will include stocking decorating, snow globe decorating and creating Christmas party kits.

The couple themselves have big plans for Christmas Day, expecting to spend the day with the Queen at Sandringham.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also expected to be at the royal family celebrations, despite speculation of a feud between Meghan and Kate.

Kensington Palace was forced to deny claims of a row between the two couples last Christmas, when sources claimed that Prince Charles had arranged for Harry and Meghan to stay with William and Kate at the Cambridges’ Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall.
