This is the funny moment Tory chairman James Cleverly decided to mimic a catwalk model and strut his stuff onstage ahead of Boris Johnson’s conference speech.   

Video footage shows the Braintree MP, 50, looking into the camera and giving a tongue-in-cheek guide to walking the runway.

‘You cross over don’t you? Cross over, cross over, then you get to the end, turn and then look,’ Mr Cleverly said as he posed at the end of the stage during this week’s Conservative Party Conference at the Manchester Central Convention Complex.

After pausing and giving a mock hair flick he breaks into laughter, to the amusement of his fans. 

Mr Cleverly was testing out the extended staging ahead of the prime minister’s speech at the conference yesterday afternoon. 

On Instagram Mr Cleverly posted the video with the caption: ‘One of the great advantages of being Conservative party chairman is that I got to mess around on set before Boris Johnson made his fantastic speech.’


Mr Cleverly even does a mock hair flick and tilts backwards much to the amusement of fans (left). The MP smiles at the camera and said on Instagram that being able to test out the staging is one of the ‘great advantages’ of being chairman

He posted the video of himself alongside German model Leon Dame who stomped down the runway at Maison Margiela’s show at Paris Fashion Week last month. 

The MP asked his 61,800 followers on Twitter: ‘Who did the catwalk best?’ 

His supporters were quick to praise him with one Twitter user, Amanda Robertson, commenting: ‘King of the catwalk’.

Mr Cleverly posted a poll to his 61,800 Twitter followers asking who walked best. He posted his own walk alongside German model Leon Dame who strutted fiercely down the runway at the closing of the Maison Margiela Spring 2020 show at Paris Fashion Week

Twitter followers called Mr Cleverly ‘king of the catwalk’ and appreciated the ‘hair flip’ at the end of his walk 

Lulu Fritton responded to the video and said: ‘Liked the ‘hair flip’ at the end of the catwalk.’ 

‘What a legend and a future PM I hope’, commented Young Conservative Will Barnes.
