Iowa, NH Dems: Bloomberg must visit if he’s serious about White House bid

The leaders of Democratic Parties of Iowa and New Hampshire said Friday they expect Mike Bloomberg to press the flesh and take questions directly from voters in their states if he runs for president — a day after the former three-term billionaire New York City mayor indicated he was reconsidering a bid for the White House.

The unusual joint statement released by New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley and Iowa party leader Troy Price seemed to suggest concerns that Bloomberg would pass over their states if he makes a late entry into the race and instead pour money into TV ads.

“We are excited that this Democratic presidential nomination contest has so many qualified candidates who all have plans to grow our economy, make quality health care more accessible, and make college more affordable, and we are certain that Granite Staters, Iowans, and other early state voters are eager to ask Michael Bloomberg about his plans to move our states and our country forward,” the Granite State and Hawkeye leaders said.

“We hope that they will have that opportunity.”

The Iowa Democratic Caucuses will be held on Feb. 3 and the New Hampshire primary on Feb. 11.
