An Indian woman has been arrested for "exposing her thigh" in a Facebook photograph while dressed as a pilgrim.
Activist and model Rehana Fathima, 32, was last month stopped by protesters as she tried to enter one of Hinduism’s holiest temples.
The Sabarimala shrine has historically been closed to women of "menstruating age" as the religion regards them as unclean.
Despite the Supreme Court overturning the ban in September, Ms Fathima and a female journalist were refused entry.
And according to the BBC , Ms Fathima was arrested in Cochin on Tuesday.
She has also been suspended from her job as a telecom technician at BSNL.
A magistrate sent her to prison for 14 days to allow police to investigate the charges against her, which include "exposing her thigh" while dressed as a pilgrim on Facebook.
In October, Ms Fathima posted a selfie on Facebook which showed her dressed in black, her forehead smeared with sandalwood paste and her knees pulled up in front to mimic the classic Lord Ayyappa pose.
Police noted complaints that they photograph was "sexually explicit" and "wounded the religious feelings of Lord Ayyappa’s devotees".
Ms Fathima’s family have applied for bail and are awaiting a court date on Friday.
"What about the men who go to Sabarimala bare-chested or expose their thighs? How come that’s not outrageous?" a friend told the BBC.
"It’s those people who are creating religious disharmony. Sabarimala allows all men, whatever their faith. It’s only women who are not allowed into the shrine."
