This is the hilarious moment a cat sneaked behind an angler, apparently trying to steal fish from the man’s bucket in China.

The seemingly hungry ginger cat is seen in trending footage tiptoeing around the bucket while trying to reach for something inside with its paw in a determined fashion.

With eyes fixed on the prize, the feline was caught off guard after it suddenly saw the Chinese man watching the animal’s every move with amusement.

The mischievous feline burglar was recently featured on Passion News, a state-approved news outlet affiliated to the Young Pioneers of China.

It was said to have been caught in the act recently at a fishing pond in south-western Chinese city Chongqing, according to reports.

Footage filmed by an onlooker shows the ginger cat standing on its hind legs while carefully reaching for the bucket behind the angler who was focusing on his fishing rod.

After the man didn’t notice the furry intruder, the moggie is seen sticking its head inside the container while eagerly trying to catch the fish inside, said Chinese media.

The hungry animal was so concentrated on its food that it failed to realise that it was already spotted by the angler who suddenly turned around.

Amused by the feline’s behaviour, the man remained silent while following the animal’s every move.

The cat was caught off guard and scurried away when it looked up and saw the smiling angler who then waved his hand to scare it away.

The furry thief’s hilarious attempt amused tens of thousands of social media users who joked that the cat looked like it had done this before.

One viewer wrote: ‘Look at its body, I think it’s a re-offender.’

Another commenter took the moggie’s side and said: ‘Its determination is worthy of reward! Just give it one [fish]!’

The ginger cat apparently is not the only feline that likes to break rules.

Another cat was escorted off a train in China earlier this month after the furry passenger was spotted ‘travelling without a ticket’.

The feline, believed to be a stray, sneaked onto a high-speed train, seemingly trying to hitch a free ride.

After being caught red-handed, the animal is seen trotting on its hind legs with tiny steps as it was carried out of the carriage by a railway officer.
