A heartbreaking video shows Kane Walker, 31, bitterly crying with a light blanket over his shoulders as he insisted, "I can't do this no more".
He was filmed speaking last August to Colin Rankine, who founded the charity Active Christians.
The video starts with Colin trying his best to calm Kane down, offering him a cup of tea and telling him to "come over here".
But Kane replied: "There's no point brother, I'm done now. I'm not gonna be here.
"I'm not living like this no more. This ain't my life. I'm done.
The homeless community has been massively affected by this news. Another friend has been taken too early and unnecessarily.
"I'm done. You've never seen me like this before. I'm done."
Seconds later, Mr Walker can be heard weeping, and choking on his tears as he said: "I can't do this no more.
"I can't. It's not fair".
Last Sunday, Mr Walker was found dead near Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre at around 3.30pm.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene following reports of his death from shoppers, but he was pronounced dead.
A huge floral tribute was left outside the centre, as dozens flocked to pay their tribute to their friend.
I can't do this anymore. I'm done
Peter Caine said Mr Walker's death had hit his team, Birmingham's Helping the Homeless charity, very hard.
He said: "We've known him for around four years – since we started. It hit the team quite badly.
"He was a good guy and a pleasure for the team to meet on our outreach. He always brought us a smile and will not be forgotten. We hope he has found peace now."
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said of the incident: "We were called at 3.50pm by the ambulance service.
"The body of a 31-year-old man was sadly discovered at the scene. There are not thought to have been any suspicious circumstances."
