AMG editor Shailesh Solanki told the Guardian of Mr Javid: ‘As the first ethnic minority to be home secretary, that, we believe, is another glass ceiling smashed.’

On Mr Khan, he added: ‘He still received the highest vote for an elected politician in the whole of Europe. He does take a stand and when he speaks, people listen.’

And Mr Solanki said of Mr Basu that the task of ‘keeping the country safe’ had been ‘given to an Asian police officer of very considerable repute’.

Ms Miller, who is from Guyana – or British Guiana when she was born there to parents of Indian descent – is still ‘very much in the public eye’, Mr Solanki said.

He added: ‘We can only see her rise. She is probably the face of the Remain campaign and an eloquent speaker.

Other celebrities making their debut on the list include presenter Jameela Jamil in 22nd place, and stand-up comedian Romesh Ranganathan at 29th.

The list will be formally announced tonight at the GG2 Leadership Awards, a gala dinner in Central London.

Among the other categories are the Man of the Year, Pride of Britain and Young Journalist of the Year – the latter of which is sponsored by the Daily Mail.
