Girl, 17, persuaded besotted boyfriend to try to stab his ex-girlfriend to death to 'prove his love'

A COLLEGE student who urged her besotted boyfriend to murder his ex-girlfriend during a macabre plot ''to prove himself'' to her was today jailed for 16 years.

Sarah Mohamed, 17, waited outside the victim's home and sent 50 texts to Rhett Carty-Shaw saying: ''Hurry up and do it” as he stabbed the mother of his child.

Imam Nasir, 17, was left with wounds to her face, neck and armpit plus three to her back and was lucky to escape with her life.

Carty-Shaw, also 17 and a student and Mohamed were arrested later.

Police discovered the couple exchanged sickening texts messages with him saying: ''I did it to prove I love you – there was no other way to keep you."

She replied: ''I know there wasn’t -I’m gonna protect you at all costs.''

At Manchester Crown Court, Mohamed from the city's Blackley district was convicted of intentionally encouraging or assisting the boy to commit murder.

She denied wrongdoing claiming she thought the boy as simply going to end his relationship with the victim and she wanted him to record the break up on his phone as proof.

Carty-Shaw from Old Trafford, Manchester, admitted causing GBH but was convicted of the more serious charge of attempted murder and was also locked up for 16 years.

A judge ordered they be named due to the 'strong public interest' in the case.

During the hearing Miss Nasir also waived her right to anonymity and read out a statement saying: ''This incident has dramatically changed my life and the outlook of living.

"I can’t do things I want to do anymore because I’m too scared. I’m scared that someone is going to come after me and finish off the job that Rhett and Sarah both started and tried to do to me.

I don’t trust anyone as if Rhett the person I loved can do that to me then anyone can."

Miss Nasir had started dating the boy in 2013 but their romance began to fizzle out in 2018 before she realised she was pregnant with his child.

He began dating his new girlfriend but continued seeing his ex behind the back of his latest partner.

The incident occurred earlier this year after Mohamed learnt Carty-Shaw was still seeing his ex and the pair exchanged angry texts.

She told him the relationship was over and when he said he wanted her back. she replied: ''You can try but it would take great commitment on your part.''

The day before the attack on May 4 Carty-Shaw the boy searched online for terms including 'how many years is someone in for murder?'

'YOU WILL DIE'

He then contacted Mohamed saying he was coming round to visit at her in Openshaw.

In her evidence Miss Nasir said: "He came round to mine and when I met him at the door he had a green plastic bag with him and he had black gloves. In that bag he had a Adidas black hoodie and matching trousers.

''He said he was taking it to charity and I wanted to have a look and we started arguing.

''He told me he was going to have a conversation about killing me. He was looking at the mirror. If you cared about someone, you wouldn’t say this about someone.

"I said I felt really weird. It hurt the fact that he had the nerve to say something like that to me. It was the shock, I was thinking about that and I was crying.

''He was saying 'do I look like a killer?' and 'do you want me to kill you?' and multiple times he said: ''you will die'."

Miss Nasirl tried unsuccessfully to call 999 before managing to eject the boy from the property.

But when she said she was calling police he began stabbing her repeatedly near a garden door.

Carty-Shaw was arrested carrying bags containing blood stained clothing and the knife which had been cleaned with a Dettol wipe.
