Fury as soldier who beat and strangled heavily pregnant girlfriend walks free from court

Friends of victim Chloe Rennie, 19, have blasted the decision claiming  “animal” Euan Kerr, 20, got “a slap on the wrist" while she has been left mentally scarred.

The teenager was left with a black eye after she was attacked by the soldier while she was weeks away from giving birth to their daughter.

Kerr, a member of the Scots Royal Regiment, assaulted Chloe on October 7 last year at McAdam Place in Ayr, Scotland.

The 20-year-old, of Thorn Terrace, Kilmarnock, admitted punching the pregnant teen on the head, straddling her and placing his hands around her neck and squeezing – endangering her life, reports The Daily Record.

An allegation in the original charge that Kerr had “threatened her unborn baby” was dropped.

The soldier was placed on a community payback order of two years supervision by Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court.

He is also banned from contacting or approaching Chloe.

Speaking with the Ayrshire Post, a friend of the victim, who does want to be named, blasted the court’s ruling.

They said:  “This animal got a slap on the wrist and in my eyes it isn’t anywhere near good enough.

“It’s not fair that everyday for her is a mental battle and everyday for him is a life of luxury.

“He committed a serious offence that he is not paying for and instead she will pay for it for the rest of her life.”
