A furious father has complained to his daughter’s school after she was shown a film clip that contained the F-word – 16 times.

The secondary school has launched an investigation after the 12-year-old student told her father she saw the profanity-strewn segment from famous rapper Eminem’s biopic 8 Mile.

Pupils in a Year 7 history class were reportedly asked to watch a rap battle scene from the popular movie, based on the young life of the American hip-hop legend.

A father, who did not wish to be named, was left furious after his 12-year-old daughter who attends Southchurch High School  in Southend, Essex, was shown a clip from Eminem’s rap battle scene in the film 8 Mile which contains the f-word 16 times (Pictured: rap battle scene)

Along with the repeated ‘f***s’, the sing-off included references to guns and inappropriate comments about women.

The parent, who did not want to be named, said the clip was inappropriate for a child of 12 and demanded an apology from Southchurch High School in Southend, Essex.

He said: ‘With what we read about crime happening in Southend currently, these young children could be influenced badly by scenes like this, especially the boys who think it is cool to listen to this music that degrades women and assault people, it is just not acceptable.

‘The language that was used when I read them I could not believe.

‘If you actually listen to them, I think that any parent would be horrified that a teacher would show something such as this to a child.’

The father said that, although parents might be unable to stop their children from hearing music like that shown in the film, he felt a classroom was not the appropriate place for them to come into contact with it.

He added: ‘There are other methods of putting things across as this just encourages the children.

‘We often hear things from my daughter when she comes home from school, we don’t mind those things too much but when they come home and tell us about things such as this, it does not give me a huge amount of confidence in the school.

‘It should at least contact parents to make us aware the teacher is planning something like this.

‘I would like the school to apologise for this happening.’

The school told the Echo it had been made aware of the father’s complaint.

Stuart Reynolds, headteacher of the school, said: ‘I do not allow staff or the children to swear within the school, but I cannot make any further comment.

‘The school is aware of the allegation and an investigation will take place into this.’

The 2002 film 8 Mile follows the young Marshall Mathers – more commonly known as Eminem – as he grows up in Detroit and struggles to break out of poverty and establish himself as a professional musician.

It is unclear as this stage why the school was showing the film in a history class.

Southchurch High School, formerly known as Futures Community College, opened in September 2016.

The school was placed into special measures in 2014 after being rated ‘inadequate’ in an Ofsted report, while Mr Reynolds was acting headteacher.

At its last inspection in 2016, it was upgraded to ‘requires improvement’.
