The body of a partially devoured man has been discovered floating in a pond at a luxury golf resort in Cancun.
The man’s corpse was being feasted on by crocodiles when officers arrived on the scene and firefighters were called to keep the reptiles at bay while he was recovered.
Identified from the tattoos on his back, craftwork salesman Juan Carlos L.C. had reportedly been missing for two days when police were called to the golf course.
The 44-year-old was being eaten by the crocodiles in a pond near the Iberostar hotel in the southern Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
Captured on video, the victim’s body can be seen floating in the pond and a crocodile’s tail appears in the water next to it.
Firefighters and Civil Protection officers were reportedly called to keep the crocodiles at bay whilst the body was removed and the remains have been identified by the victim’s family, according to reports.
Local media report that forensic experts have determined that the victim had been attacked by crocodiles, being drowned underwater and then partially eaten by the animals.
Reports suggest crocodiles have begun moving into the waters surrounding golf courses and hotels as their natural habitat is being encroached on by developers.
