Eric Garner’s mom says video of George Floyd’s death is ‘recurring nightmare’ – The Sun

ERIC Garner’s mom has said that the video of George Floyd’s death is a "recurring nightmare."

Gwen Carr's son died at a hospital in 2014 after NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo put him into a chokehold as he yelled "I can't breathe."

Eric was being arrested on suspicion of selling untaxed cigarettes on Staten Island.

On Monday, George Floyd died after Officer Derek Chauvin was filmed kneeling on his neck during an arrest in Minneapolis as the black man shouted "I can't breathe."

The arrest was carried out after Floyd allegedly trying to use forged documents at a local deli.

Carr said that seeing the video, which went viral this week, was like "déjà vu."

"It was déjà vu all over again,” Carr told NBC. "It’s like a recurring nightmare."

"It was just like me reliving my son’s murder all over again," she told PIX11.

"Tears are in my eyes because it’s like it’s happening to me again and again. Why does this keep on happening over and over again?"

Speaking about the video of Floyd, Carr told NBC: "I don’t see any justification. To put your knee on someone’s neck, you are obstructing their breathing. That is completely a no-no."

What we know about the story so far:

– Footage emerged showing cops drag Floyd from his car

– Floyd's family said the cops "deserve life" for the loss of George

– Protests have broke out in Minneapolis

– Four cops have been fired following the release of the video

"Why would you keep your knee there? After three minutes, you don’t realize that this man is saying that he can’t breathe?

"And he’s struggling, struggling for life?"

Despite being pleased that the officers were fired, Carr told PIX11 that more needs to be done for Floyd's family.

"I'm so glad that those officers were fired, but that’s not enough," she said.

"We need criminal charges because that was outright murder, what they did to that young man.

"I hope the FBI investigators treat their case better than they treated mine.

"I'm so glad that this family will not have to fight for that long just to get the officers fired, but now they need to be prosecuted because that was outright murder.

"This family has suffered enough. Looking at that video makes them suffer enough … that young man should be alive today."

On Tuesday evening, during an interview with CNN, George's brother, Philonise, said: "They took a life, they deserve life."

"They could have tased him, maced him,” he said. "Instead, they put their knee in his neck and just sat on him and didn't care at all."

"They're at home and sleeping with their wives, they have kids.

"If something like that happened to them, they would be just like me."

Floyd's cousin, Tera Brown, said that police need to "pay for what they did."

“We want to see them charged with murder and we want them to be convicted," she said. "They need to pay for what they did.”
