Footage shows two nine ducklings and their parents attempting to get their brood across a two lane road in Queenstown, New Zealand.
A woman in a purple raincoat stopped to warn drivers to slow down as the little flock tried to get to water on the other side of the street.
The family has two close-calls with cars which ignored the warning sign, while a vehicle in the opposite lane yields to the request and slows on approach, the NZ Herald reported.
As the woman in purple makes her way on to the road, attempting to heard the ducklings out of harm’s way.
But seconds after stepping to safety herself, a careless driver in a red car speeds straight through the family of birds.
Video of the distressing incident surfaced after Rolf Liechti lodged a complaint with local police demanding justice for the nine ducklings and their parents.
Unfortunately, he never heard back from the police handling his inquiry. .
Rolf said the mother died in the accident, as did one of her ducklings.
He went on to say that without their mother, it was likely all the other ducklings died shortly thereafter.
Rolf added: “Whenever we see them [ducks] we always stop the traffic and help them across the road … everyone does … because they go across the road to the creek.
“We even had signs up there last year after someone ran over them, but this guy just didn't even seem to give a s***, either that or he was on the phone or something or wasn't looking, who knows.
A spokesperson from the police force admits they did choose not to take the complaint any further, but say as far as they were aware, no crime was committed.
“It didn't appear from the information provided during that call that an offence had been committed so no further action was taken.”
