A distraught man screamed in agony after learning that his wife and their unborn twins had died in a horrific car crash involving a speeding driver.
Bronco Hoang was in the front teaching a relative to drive while pregnant Katherine Hoang, 23, sat in the backseat.
He was left fighting for his life following the tragedy that claimed the lives of both Katherine and Bronco’s cousin Belinda Hoang, 17, in Sydney at 7.40pm on September 28.
Medics were forced to sedate Mr. Hoang after he was told the devastating news at Westmead Hospital last week.
“He screamed so loudly, ‘Why Katherine? Please not the babies’,” his aunt Pham Crawford told The Daily Telegraph.
“He can’t stop crying and feels guilty he’s the only one who survived.”
Father-of-four Richard Moananu, 29, was charged with 10 offences from his hospital bed following the incident.
Police say he was travelling at over 100 km/h in the wrong direction when his Mazda 3 ploughed into several oncoming cars.
Moananu, from Sydney, has been accused of negligence, unlicenced driving, two counts of manslaughter and aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Further charges could be filed against the builder as police continue their investigation into the accident.
Lucy La, a family friend, has urged New South Wales Police to file additional manslaughter charges over unborn twins’ deaths.
"We are upset as these babies were already part of the family and they did die in the accident," she said.
"Unfortunately only two out of four lives were recognised."
"As the other family members, there is not much for us to do so we thought (about) reaching out to the community for financial support as the family begins funeral arrangements once the long weekend is over," she said.
Friends have launched a GoFundMe appeal to raise funds for the victim’s funerals.
"The money we raised will be given to both Katherine’s family as they begin to make funeral preparations," the page said.
"We have also discussed with the family and they have agreed to donate some of the money to the trauma team who worked endlessly to save Katherine’s life at the scene of the accident and rescuing Bronco."
