The son of Coronation Street legend Bill Tarmey has died at the age of 52, following a ten-year battle with an incurable brain tumour.
Father-of-three Carl Piddington, who worked as a builder for 20 years, passed away on Tuesday, a decade after being told by doctors he had just 12 months to live.
Brain Tumour Research expressed its condolences to ‘all who knew and loved’ Carl, who lived with his family in Ashton-under-Lyne, in Tameside, Greater Manchester.

His father Bill, who died from a heart attack aged 71 in November 2012, famously quit his role as Jack Duckworth on Coronation Street to spend more time with his son following the diagnosis.

In a 2017 interview, Carl revealed he felt immense guilt for outliving his father and said his diagnosis was partly responsible for his death.
He told the Sunday Mirror: ‘I’ll never forget the day I told my dad I had cancer. He collapsed psychically and emotionally, sobbing like a baby.

The pair campaigned to raise awareness on behalf of Brain Tumour Research after being told his tumour was inoperable.

He played Jack Duckworth for thirty years. The actor was a former pub singer and TV extra. But after joining the show in 1979, he quickly became a TV treasure.
Tarmey made his first appearance as an extra during an episode that aired on 28 November, 1979. But only became a member of the cast in 1983, when he moved onto the Street.
Whilst Jack was working a British fairground ride, The Waltzer, he met Vera Burton, the other half of the Street’s most famous couple.
