Jaymielee Stewart, 23, was sent into a blind panic when three-year-old Lucas decided he wanted to style his hair for his first day of nursery – and used a whole tub of the gunk.
Frantically looking at ways to get the slippery substance from his locks, she read that talcum powder would work, but as she didn't have any in the house used self-raising flour instead.
The Vaseline and flour then combined to form a gooey paste and took hours of scrubbing, combing and washing to get out.
It hadn't been a good week as it was, as this greasy gaffe came just a few days after the tot had grabbed some children's scissors and cut a chunk out of his hair.
Jaymielee knew something was wrong when she called Lucas for his breakfast and he was suspiciously quiet.
He walked into the kitchen and proudly announced that he had done his hair.
At first, she called her mum, Andrena, 40, who according to Jaymielee just laughed down the phone.
She said: “Mum was no good, she was in stitches laughing.
She got him in the shower but the water was just "dripping back off his face" due to the waterproof element of the product.
"I looked online and it suggested using talcum powder or baby powder, I didn’t have either but was trying to think of something similar.
“I knew I had self-raising flour so ran to get it. I tried to rub it in but it just looked like I was baking a cake on his head.
“I hoped it would absorb it but it made a paste, it was like the episode with Ross from Friends with the leather trousers.
“I rinsed that out and saw someone else had posted about using a deep-cleansing soap. I didn’t have that but I did have soap powder so I stuck about half a box on his head and kept washing it.
“In total, I washed his hair 23 times.
“I have used every single bottle of shampoo, two bottles of conditioner, half a bag of self-raising flour, half a box of soap powder and cornflour.
“I’ve managed to get most of it out with the shampoo and combing but it’s still very greasy.
“I’ll just have to hope it rains on the nursery run so I can get away with him wearing a hat and explain to the nursery teachers what’s happened.
“He’ll have to go to nursery looking like a little grease ball.”
