Britain’s worst airport named for poor queues, shops, seating and loos

Luton Airport – put on the map by an iconic 1970s telly ad – has been named the worst in the country.

The Bedfordshire terminal found fame in a Campari campaign in which model Lorraine Chase was asked if she had been wafted in from paradise.

Her reply: “Nah. Luton Airport” was so popular it became the title of a 1979 pop hit.

But now it has scored just 35 out of 100 in a customer satisfaction survey by Which?

Passengers slammed bag drop queues, poor shops, bad seating, lousy loos and grumpy staff.

Check-in, passport control, security and baggage reclaim were also criticised.

Which? branded the airport’s scores as “dismal”.

All three Manchester terminals fared badly along with Stansted.

Heathrow’s T5 was voted best larger airport.

Doncaster Sheffield was the soaraway success among smaller airports and declared the best in Britain with 87.

Luton Airport said it had just spent £160-million and its own poll showed seven in 10 users were “happy”.
