Amy Louise Gerard’s body was found floating in the sea near the Spanish island by police on 4 December after she went missing four days before.
Local police told Sky News the body was badly deteriorated and they were having difficulty even identifying whether it was male or female.
They believed it was the 28-year-old but DNA testing has now confirmed it was Ms Gerard.
A statement from her family said: “The DNA results confirm our worst nightmare and we are all heartbroken that Amy is no longer with us.
“The police investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to share at this time.”
Ms Gerard was reported missing after she was last seen standing outside Irish bar Molly Malone’s in Puerto de la Cruz at about 12.20am on 30 November.
Her family, including her mother Julie and sister Chloe, flew out to the Spanish island to help find her.
Originally from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, Ms Gerard had worked as an animal trainer at Tenerife’s Loro Parque theme park since 2016.
Matthew Searle, head of the Lucie Blackman Trust which helps the families of missing British people abroad, said: “This is the worst news for the family just before Christmas.
“The thoughts of all of us here at the charity are with Amy’s family and we continue to support them.”
