X-Men star reassures fans over The New Mutants reshoots and delay

Although the DC movie universe is the one making headlines for how much of a mess it is, the X-Men series has been having a rough time of it too.

Yes, Logan was fantastic and the Deadpool movie did well financially, but both the main series Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants spin-offs have suffered from multiple delays and reshoots.

Certain groups of fans have, as they tend to do, cried out that the studios ‘don’t WANT you to see them’ (sigh).

Now actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who will play Illyana Rasputin/Magik, has spoken out about the reshoots and delays, and her message is basically: chill out.

Speaking to Collider, she said: “I don’t find [the delay] frustrating because when the film comes out, we want it to be something that will make the fans truly happy.

“Taking the time to do it, whilst people might find it a little bit frustrating to wait for it, when we deliver it, it’s going to be fantastic. That’s the most important thing. And getting the opportunity to play the character again is just great.

“I think we’re making the movie that we set out to make, in the beginning. That’s what we’re going to end up delivering to people. It feels like the movie we all signed up to do, which is good.”

Talking about her character, she said: “I love my character. I have such a connection to Illyana. I absolutely adore her, and getting to play her is super fun because she’s sassy and Russian and a little bit psycho. She’s just so much fun to play.”

Meanwhile, Dark Phoenix star Sophie Turner also recently told Digital Spy of the reshoots: “I think it’s just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise.

“All I know is that I’ll be back in Montreal at some point soon, and that the Valentine’s Day release date is quite a positive thing, because Black Panther got released on Valentine’s Day. So we’re keeping positive about it.”

The New Mutants will be released on August 2, 2019.
