In a strange opening segment on This Morning today, viewers saw a guest who was diagnosed with a rare condition that meant she could not feel pain.
Jo Cameron told of how throughout her life she had not felt pain, even when she had been through childbirth.
The 71-year-old explained: “I’ve had two children and I just didn’t feel childbirth.”
She continued: “I was told by my friends to just take everything, when the pain gets bad I should just take that, and so I waited for the pain and then I would ask, but the pain never came.”
Upon this revelation and after a brief ad break, viewers were met with a new set-up that featured bowls of ice water and some ferocious looking scotch bonnet peppers – known for their extreme spiciness.
Host Eamonn Holmes, 59, then challenged Jo to eat a scotch bonnet whole, and after accepting, Eamonn’s co-host and wife Ruth Langsford asked their resident doctor if she was happy with this.
However, it seemed she was not exactly sure, replying: “Hmmmm I think so…”
Another added: “I think they’re trying to kill this poor woman live on air”
A third added: “Wouldn’t be surprised if when This Morning returns they got that woman strapped into an electric chair.”
This Morning continues Monday at 10:30am on ITV.
