The question on every Purge fans’ lips is whether the upcoming TV show will cross-over with the movie series.
Well, one of the show’s executive producers has had his say about the horror series, admitting that it’s a conversation that’s been had.
“We talked about whether we wanted to connect the TV series to the movie, or make it a new Purge world,” Jason Blum told The Hollywood Reporter.
“There are a few easter eggs in this series, but the series is all new characters and in another world where the Purge exists, separate from the movies. Eventually, maybe one day, we’ll connect them, but we really invested new characters for the television series,” he added.
To be fair, we wouldn’t be surprised if there were some links to the movie franchise in the first season though, potentially all the way back to The First Purge.
The show is due to be set after the first two movies in the franchise, but before 2016’s The Purge: Election Night, according to creator James DeMonaco.
He has also addressed fan confusion that the USA Network series would not even show the Purge night, confirming it would be set around an event.
“I’d say it’s 70, 65% Purge night and then 30% flashback. We follow four what-seem-to-be separate storylines of people going out on the evening and experiencing the Purge,” he said.
“The real estate of the 10 hours of the TV allows us to use flashback, where we flashback out of the Purge world, into the regular lives, the non-Purge days, of this future America.
“We get to see who these people are when it’s not Purge Night and the events that led them to where they are on the particular Purge night that we are following.”
The Purge TV show premiered last night (September 4) on USA Network in the US and starts today (September 5) on Prime Video in the UK.
