Whoopi Goldberg has given us an update on Sister Act 3, admitting that it will be a “different direction” than the previous two movies.
The much-rumoured third outing has been talked about for a while – we mean, it’s been 25 years since the last movie – and a reboot was first confirmed three years ago.
Goldberg has certainly been keen on getting back in the habit – even putting herself in the running to direct – and has now revealed where things stand.
“We’ve been all over Disney begging,” the actress said on Good Morning Britain today (September 21) when asked about a potential movie. “They’ve decided that they’re going to go in a different direction with Sister Act.
“So it won’t be Sister Act 3 it will be a brand new rendition of Sister Act, and I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it.”
This comes after Goldberg revealed last year that she was confident a third movie would happen, and expressed interest in directing.
“I think that there will be a Sister Act 3,” she said. “But I don’t know that I would be Deloris, which is okay, because it’s time for someone [else] to do it.
“But it’s such a fun piece that I’m hoping someone will do it. Maybe I’ll direct it…”
Before that, she suggested that they would “find somebody much younger” to play her role in a new movie, though admitted it would be a “great blast” to make a third.
Meanwhile, the original cast of Sister Act reunited last year to give us all an incredible choir performance to mark the original movie’s 25th anniversary.
