Vera: DCI Stanhope meets the new pathologist
Vera’s Kenny Doughty thrilled fans after reuniting with his co-star Brenda Blethyn at the National Television Awards (NTAs).
Brenda, who plays DCI Vera Stanhope in the ITV cop drama, was nominated for an award for Best Drama Performance.
The actress was up against Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire, India Amarteifio from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, James Norton for his role as Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, and Judy Parfitt from Call the Midwife.
Despite losing out to Sarah Lancashire, Brenda was all smiles as she sat alongside Kenny, who announced his heartbreaking exit earlier this year.
Kenny may have left the series, but it was confirmed he would feature in one final episode of Vera.

“I can confirm I am leaving Vera. I want to thank everyone who’s made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy & inspiration Brenda Blethyn.”
The Aiden Healy star concluded: “The perfect leading star who I owe so much to.
