In an interview with 60 minutes Australia, Thomas Markle has made it clear that he’s hurt by the way his relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has fallen apart.
As the interviewer asked how he felt about the fact they live in the same country but have not had contact in three years, Thomas said he was “certainly hurt by a lot of it.”
When asked if he ever worried if he might never get to meet his grandchildren, Thomas replied: “July 18 th I’ll be 77 years old, most of the Markle men don’t make it much past 80 so there’s a yeah, there’s a good chance I might, might never see my grandchildren.
“I’m not looking for pity, I’m just saying that’s a reality.”
The interviewer then goes on to ask if he’s at all tempted to drive to where Harry and Meghan live and try to visit.
Thomas replied: “I would never do that, that makes me a stalker and I’m not a stalker. She knows where I live, he knows where I live, Harry is invited to come down anytime he wants, by himself or Meghan’s invited to come down anytime she wants, by herself or with Harry.
“You know, I would love that, Father’s Day is coming up, that really hurts when Father’s Day comes up.”
Meghan cut contact with her father after he staged photos of himself preparing for her wedding ahead of the big day.
Thomas went out with a photographer to stage photos of himself reading newspaper articles about the wedding, looking up UK locations online and getting fitted for a suit.
Thomas also leaked a personal letter from Meghan to news outlets, with Meghan’s sister taking the blame for setting up the photoshoot.
Because of the failed photoshoot, Thomas was not seen walking Meghan down the aisle on the day of her wedding and has since appeared in newspaper headlines for a number of different things, more famously for saying his daughter is “destroying” the royal family.
When speaking to Oprah about her relationship with her father regarding the shoot, Meghan said: “I said, ‘I just need you to tell me, if you tell me the truth, we can help,’ and he wasn’t have to do that, and that for me has really resonated, especially now as a mother.”
