Nat Wolff stars in A24 drama based on 2013 documentary from Dan Krauss
In A24’s “The Kill Team,” Alexander Skarsgård plays a morally corrupt commanding officer during the Afghanistan War who leads one of his soldiers, played by Nat Wolff, to question his sense of duty and challenge authority despite the fear of his own life.
It’s all based on a true story and even a documentary by the same name. Dan Krauss is the writer and director of both “The Kill Team” and the 2013 documentary, which was selected as one of the year’s top five documentaries by the National Board of Review.
The film specifically follows Andrew Briggman (Wolff), a young soldier in the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2009 who witnesses other recruits killing innocent civilians under the direction of their sadistic leader, Sgt. Deeks (Skarsgård). He considers reporting them to higher-ups — but the heavily-armed, increasingly violent platoon becomes suspicious that someone in their ranks has turned on them, and Andrew begins to fear that he’ll be the next target.
“You try to do what you think is right. The problem is, you don’t even know what right means,” Skarsgård says to Wolff when he just wants to be left alone. “You are alone.”
“The Kill Team” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and it opens in theaters and on-demand from A24 on Oct. 25. Watch the trailer above.
