Fans of the popular quiz show claimed they were distracted by the contestant's patriotic outfit choice during tonight's episode as answered quick-fire questions from Bradley Walsh.
Barry – who is from Dunstable and works on the London Underground's Northern line – revealed he wanted to take his family to Malaysia with any winnings.
He then quickly impressed as Bradley fired questions at him.
Later on at the end of the show he and the other remaining contestant Chloe were triumphant against chaser Shaun.
They won a combined £12,000, meaning they took home £6,000 each.
However, those watching at home took to Twitter to reveal they'd found the episode a little hard to watch.
One wrote: "The off centre flag on Barry's jumper is ARRRGGH!! #TheChase"
Another commented: "This fella's jumper is an OCD nightmare #thechase"
But, a third shared: "#Thechase it was the lucky jumper"
It comes after The Chase viewers were full of admiration for retired contestant Lynne when she was forced to take on the chaser alone last week.
She had to answer questions solo after Andrew, Jo and David all failed to beat Shaun – aka the Dark Destroyer.
But the plucky contestant, who stopped her role as a support worker last year, showed she wasn’t scared of the quiz expert and wowed those watching at home with her impressive attempt.
After the others were all caught by the chaser, it was Lynne’s turn to go up against him.
He offered her £50,000 and amazingly she decided to take it – and in an extraordinary twist she manged to avoid the chaser answering more questions correctly than her.
But when it got to the final chase she only managed to answer nine questions correctly in the two minutes, which Shaun beat with very little trouble at all.
Despite this, fans of the show were very impressed with the Hertfordshire-based hopeful, as was host Bradley.
Taking to Twitter to comment on it, one person wrote: “Lynne showed some guts though, just a shame it didn't pay off. #TheChase.”
