The Big Bang Theory pilot set Sheldon Cooper up as semi-pro masturbator

The Big Bang Theory is coming to an end, with the final episode airing today, and we’re honestly not ready to say goodbye.

After 12 long seasons of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) being protective over his spot, Simon Helberg’s character Howard and his inappropriate jokes, and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) attempting to find love – the gang are officially bowing out of our TV screens for good.

Except for countless repeats on E4, that is.

And ahead of the finale, Metro.co.uk have taken a wander down memory lane and rewatched the pilot, seeing where Johnny Galecki’s Leonard, Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and co. kicked things off.

However, the first episode of the show has thrown up a couple of curveballs, mainly about Sheldon Cooper.

The physicist has gained a reputation for rarely speaking about the sexual side of his life – except for that time he told Bert and everyone else at Caltech when he’d slept with Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik).

But it turns out the Sheldon Cooper in the pilot had a very different vibe about what goes on behind his bedroom door.

In fact, he even suggests that he and Leonard should visit a sperm bank specifically for those with high IQs, in a bid to make some quick money for a ‘fractional T1 bandwidth’.

Before quickly backing out of the whole idea.

‘Leonard, I don’t think I can do this,’ he tells his best friend as they wait to donate their bodily fluids, to which Penny’s husband replied: ‘What are you kidding, you’re a semi-pro?’

At masturbating.

Sheldon Cooper is semi-pro at masturbating.

Honestly, is nothing sacred?

And it gets worse, as a deleted scene shows the pair debating whether or not go through with the…. deposit.

‘Sheldon, you’re the only person I know who can take the fun out of masturbation,’ Leonard tells him.

‘Fortunately I stumbled across a magazine starring women with large buttocks,’ the physicist suggested.

‘And by stumble across, you mean removed from your sock drawer and brought with you,’ he hit back.

So much ewww in one tiny scene.

Regular – or even casual – viewers will know that Sheldon was extremely private about what goes on inside his bedroom, and was relatively inexperienced when it came to sex.

It took almost four years of dating Amy for the couple to even share a kiss, and they had sex for the first time a year later, in an episode appropriately called: ‘The Opening Night Excitation’

So it’s a little weird, and completely out of character, for Shelly to be so comfortable suggesting masturbating for money to buy a ‘fractional T1 bandwidth’, and Leonard openly admitting he’s a ‘semi-pro’ at it.

Another tiny thing that slipped us by is that the physicist apparently went to boarding school.

We’ve heard all about his mum having him tested, but how did he never bring up that his parents sent him to boarding school after an experiment with lasers went a little wrong?

And just what was he trying to find out with said lasers?

It’s not unusual for producers to change characters up from the pilot to the regular series – Blair Waldorf’s mum was played by an entirely different actress on Gossip Girl, and the Cohen’s housekeeper and their dog never returned again in The OC – but these tiny details of a secretly sex-obsessed Sheldon would have changed the show entirely.

That’s definitely not a bazinga.

It was recently revealed Jim was behind the decision to end Big Bang Theory after 12 seasons.

And the 46-year-old lifted the lid on why he believes it’s the right time for the laughs to end.

‘It was the first time in my life of doing this show that it occurred to me that I might want to not do another contract after [season] 12 was up,’ Jim told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘I don’t know if it’s because I’m an Aries or just because maybe I’m in touch with myself. Whatever it is, once I had that thought, I was like, “Well, that’s your answer.”

‘There was no factor; there was no situation that I was like, “Well, I’ve had enough of that.” No. There was nothing like that. ‘It was just…when you know, you know.

‘And you’re susceptible and thrown around by the whims of your own existence and getting to a certain age and your life changes and suddenly you just think different.’

We’re still not ready for it to end.

The Big Bang Theory season 12 finale airs on Thursday, on CBS, in the US, and at a later date on E4 in the UK.
