Terminator Dark Fate: Edward Furlong John Connor CONFIRMED – What happened to child star?

It’s been 28 years since Terminator 2: Judgement Day hit cinemas. And while it’s seen as one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, its sequels haven’t left much to the imagination. But now original director James Cameron is back as a producer and says Terminator: Dark Fate (the sixth film in the franchise) is a direct sequel to Terminator 2. Not only is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 back, but so is Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor. And now original John Connor child star Edward Furlong is returning for the sequel too after almost three decades.

Cameron made the announcement at San Diego Comic Con’s Terminator: Dark Fate Comic Con panel yesterday.

The filmmaker skyped in since he’s busy working on his four Avatar sequels.

Fans will know John Connor is a key player in the Terminator franchise as the leader of the human resistance in the future war against the machines.

The time travel movies have also seen Nick Stahl play him in Terminator 3, Christian Bale in Terminator: Salvation and Jason Clarke in Terminator: Genisys.

But now those three films have been retconned, it’s all about Furlong’s John again.

In terms of the character’s importance, the first Terminator movie (The Terminator) saw the T-800 come back in time to murder his mother Sarah before he’s even born.

While an adult John sent one of his soldiers Kyle Reese back to protect her and in the process fall in love with her and turn out to be John’s father.

Then Terminator 2 saw John as a teenage boy, with Sarah and a new friendly T-800 working to protect him from another Terminator.

Now Terminator: Dark Fate sees Furlong’s John all grown up, but it’s unclear if he’s leading the human resistance or if Sarah really did change time at the end of Terminator 2 when she destroyed Cyberdyne.

Since his breakout role in Terminator 2 though, Furlong has had quite the troubled life.

The now 41-year-old actor has struggled with drugs and alcohol and had a stint in jail.

Furlong also had a relationship when he was 15 with a 28-year-old woman who saw his family attempt to prosecute her for statutory rape.

He’s had roles in Film and TV here and there over the years, but this is his first big part in years.

Terminator: Dark Fate is released in UK cinemas on October 23, 2019.
