Strictly staffer checks sensitive costume part before stars hit dancefloor

Hair? Good. Makeup? Quick touch-up. Zip? Up.

Off you foxtrot, then.

Strictly Come Dancing have an employee on hand to ensure every contestant’s flies are fully zipped in their final check before they take to the dancefloor.

Radio 1’s Scott Mills – a contestant in 2014 – reveals: “There was a man just to check that my fly was not undone.”

And the Fly Man’s task is taken very seriously indeed.

Nobody wants to see any unexpected glitterballs aired during the BBC’s Saturday night primetime slot.

“But imagine on your first show if your fly was undone, on the first dance,” says Scott.

“The make-up artist will do final checks a bit before you go down the stairs. Then a man was like, ‘Just checking your flies’.

“Wow – is that your job?!

Describing the feeling of walking out for the first time on the show’s podcast, Scott, 44, adds: “You have to do the wave to camera.

“But inside it’s like the night before you have to go back to school after half-term, times a thousand.”
