The professional dancer has been snubbed by BBC bosses for the past three years and hasn’t been paired up with a celebrity in the main series.
Neil has made no secret of his devastation at not being chosen but tonight he got his time in the spotlight.
He was teamed up with TV presenter Anita Rani and the pair wowed the crowds with their Foxtrot to Michael Buble’s Winter Wonderland.
They made light work of the performance and scored 35 out of 40, with the judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Shirley Ballas, praising their partnerships.
Viewers watching at home pleaded with Strictly bosses to give Neil a chance with a professional partner during the next series.
One tweeted: “Neil Jones shouldn't be just in specials he should have a chance as a proper dancer like Kevin Clifton and the rest!”
Another demanded: “Give Neil Jones a partner in 2019,” while a third added: “He is such a good dancer, it’s a shame he doesn’t!”
Speaking about being missed out of the professional line up this year, Neil told his fans: “I’m really, really happy to be part of such a great show and I just wanted to say to everyone, thank you so much for all of your kind words and your support!”
Neil previously admitted professionals are chosen for a number of reasons, including his height.
After Brendan Cole was booted off the show, many hoped Neil would take his spot but it wasn’t to be.
When asked about whether he would have replaced Brendan, Neil explained: “I’m a lot smaller than him, so it now all depends on the celebrities.
“Because Brendan danced with Charlotte [Hawkins] last year and there’s no way I would’ve been able to dance with her because she’s taller than me.”
