Strictly Come Dancing's Kate Silverton was re-injured prior to her elimination

Strictly Come Dancing‘s Kate Silverton has admitted that her rib injury came into play once again in the lead-up to her elimination this past weekend.

The BBC newsreader and her professional partner Aljaž Skorjanec unfortunately left the competition in Blackpool, when they lost the dreaded dance-off on Sunday night (November 18) to cricketer Graeme Swann and his pro Oti Mabuse.

Kate and Aljaž were reunited once more on Monday (November 19) for a chat with Zoe Ball on It Takes Two, and revealed that the journalist’s rib injury from two weeks ago was re-aggravated with days to go before Saturday’s live show.

“It’s been pretty persistent,” she admitted to Zoe. “Actually, it’s been fine, and then on the Thursday before [the live show last week], it did go again.

“So, we were a little bit nervous. But we did do the lift as we wanted to do them! So, I’m glad that we went on a dance having done lifts because that was always a little bit of an ambition.”

Kate admitted that she was “in mourning” over having her Strictly journey cut short, but remains immensely proud of having made it to Blackpool.

“I’ve just loved it,” she said. “It’s such a shame [to leave]. When I look back and think, oh god, we could have done another few dances, but you take it as it is.”

“Every single week we got to the rehearsal room and we, sort of, sat down and talked about a dance, and I always felt like we gave it our absolute best,” Aljaž agreed. “There’s nothing to look back and sort of, in my head, to be sad about… because we literally couldn’t do anything more.

“I’m so proud of it. I’m so proud of every second of it.”

Kate concluded: “Thanks to everybody. We’ve had so many, overwhelming messages. Huge thanks for everybody at home because it’s clear that they love watching and there’s so much joy. I’m just glad that whatever happened that everyone’s been able to share that with us.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday night (November 24) at 6.50pm, and then another couple will leave the competition on Sunday’s (November 25) results show at 7.20pm on BBC One.

This week’s results show will feature a live performance from the legendary Rod Stewart as well.
