Strictly 2019: ‘Harsh’ Fans baffled by Bruno Tonioli’s scoring of Chris Ramsey

Strictly Come Dancing was back tonight (December 7) as the final of the show edges ever closer. Comedian Chris Ramsey has had a huge journey in the competition so far as he admitted to never dancing before taking part in the contest. This evening saw him issued some surprising lower scores from the judges, but not by the typically stern Craig Revel Horwood.

Chris Ramsey quickly became a favourite amongst viewers for his honest approach to the competition and his great personality.

The comedian, who is partnered with Karen Hauer, found himself in the dance-off last weekend against Alex Scott in which the latter was eliminated.

This evening, he was back to take on two different numbers and the first of which was a Vienesse Waltz but it was not well-received by judge Bruno Tonioli who is known for often giving higher scores.

The routine saw Chris awarded 26 points in total but Bruno and Head Judge Shirley Ballas only awarded him six points each, behind Craig and Motsi’s seven.

Viewers were baffled by Bruno’s scoring this evening and took to Twitter to express their confusion at him awarding a lower score than Craig.

One asked: “Wondering when Craig last scored someone higher than Bruno did… #Strictly.”

Another wrote: “Shirley & Bruno being too harsh on Chris #strictly.”

A third confused fan added: “Craig giving more than Bruno WHAT #strictly.”

“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Craig mark higher than Bruno! #Strictly,” remarked another.

It comes after Chris had received mixed comments from the judges for his routine but they had remarked how proud they were of his progress in the competition.

Craig told him: “I would’ve liked to have seen it a little bit smoother I have to say, you went a bit wrong there. You know what Chris, I’m extremely proud of you.

“You’ve literally come from nothing and now you’re presenting as a dancer and I think that is extremely remarkable,” he added.

Motsi Mabuse noted: “Chris you’ve improved so much, the power of performance, nobody can take it away, the interaction between you two was beautiful to see, I thought you did a great job.”

Shirley and Bruno issued him some harsher comments this evening before he received his scores.

“There were too many mistakes, I mean we all saw it, it went on for a while but you carried on and for that part I admire you, there were some technical errors for me.

“This is the semi-final, there were too many mistakes, but like Craig I admire you!

“It just happened tonight that your footwork went off the rails, and you just couldn’t quite get back from it, but there is another dance, who knows, maybe redemption? So don’t get too discouraged.

After the two sixes were met by boos from the audience, Chris warned: “Stop booing you lunatics, they’ll take it away!”

Host Claudia Winkleman quizzed Chris about Craig’s kind comments, to which he replied: “[They were] So nice, I never thought I’d get that from Craig, I thought he hated us!”

The pair later performed a Rumba to which Craig scored the pair just four points and left them at the bottom of the leaderboard.

As the four couples return tomorrow evening (December 8) for the results show, who will just miss out on next weekend’s final and a chance to lift the Glitterball Trophy?
