Hollywood actor Steven Seagal pulled the plug on an awkward interview with BBC’s Newsnight yesterday (October 4), after being questioned about the #MeToo movement.
Seagal, who was given the surprising title of “Special Representative for Russia-US Cultural Links”, brought his chat with Kirsty Wark to an abrupt end after the presenter asked him about his experience with sexual misconduct allegations.
Although Seagal was originally on the programme to discuss his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kirsty attempted to bring up the rape allegation previously made against him – something he has always denied.
“You’ve been very much caught up in all the allegations of sexual harassment. You’ve had a rape allegation against you. I wonder how you deal with all that,” Kirsty put to Seagal.
In response, the actor promptly pulled out his ear piece and walked off-camera, signalling the end of the pre-recorded segment.
“Seagal there, and of course although he didn’t respond there, he has said previously that he denies any allegation made against him,” Kirsty told viewers.
A case from 1993 that was brought against Seagal in January of this year was dropped last month, according to The Wrap.
Another sexual misconduct case against the actor, dating from 2005, is currently under review.
Newsnight airs weekdays at 10.30pm on BBC Two.
