Stacey Solomon says her son's anxiety over toilet training 'damaged his body'

STACEY Solomon says her son's anxiety over toilet training 'damaged his body'.

The mother-of-two, who is pregnant with her third child, spoke about the issue on today's Loose Women.

The panel were discussing the news that a school in the West Midlands had hired a dedicated nappy changer amid claims children as young as five aren't toilet trained.

But Stacey, 29, admitted the report had made her "a little bit cross".

She explained: "One of [my sons] had real issues with going to the toilet at school.

"It made him feel anxious. In this article, the teacher's saying, 'They're five for god's sake, why can't they go to the toilet competently?'

"I do think that most children can at that age but I think that starting a new school the anxieties that come with it – all of these things can make it difficult for a child to go to the toilet at the right time."

While Stacey didn't say whether she was talking about son Zachary, 11, or Leighton, six, she said his anxiety over using the school loos left him in a right state.

She continued: "I had issues with my children wiping themselves properly, the teachers weren't allowed to go into the toilet with them to help or explain or to do anything."

"So I then had a problem where my child wouldn't go to the toilet at school where they hold it all day and really ended up damaging his body because it was such a big deal.

"I do think that teachers and parents need to work together."

Stacey announced she was expecting her third child – and first with boyfriend Joe Swash – earlier this year.

On today's show she spoke about her growing bump and hinted that while it was maybe starting to get uncomfortable, she was "grateful" to be expecting again.
