Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) handed herself into the police in EastEnders after she accidentally killed Leo King (Tom Wells), but — in spite of the fact that the young man was evidently making her life a living hell — it’s not looking too good for her, as DCI Morgan (Hannah Daniel) revealed that she believes there’s enough evidence to charge the young woman with murder.
Whitney was left a shell of her former self as a result of Leo having stalked her, but little did she know that he’d been hiding in her attic — and wasted little time in making his move on Valentine’s Day, as he attempted to murder her.
However, a struggle ensued and — in the end — Leo was fatally injured. Not knowing what to do, Whitney asked Mick (Danny Dyer) for assistance, but — having realised she didn’t want to go to prison — he decided to take her on board the party boat.
Unfortunately, it’s this very act that’s worked against her, as — in spite of handing herself in — she’s made herself look rather guilty in that she got dressed up and went to the boat.
During tonight’s episode, Whitney lied about having called anyone after the incident — clearly wanting to keep Mick’s name out of it after he’d previously told her he needed to be there for Linda (Kellie Bright) — but Gray (Toby-Alexander Smith) soon discovered the truth when he spoke to Mick later in the day.
Mick once again reiterated how he couldn’t go back to prison as Linda and Ollie need him more than ever, so Gray helped orchestrate a fictional narrative, whereby Mick told the police it was he who’d convinced Whitney to get dressed up and get onboard the party boat, but he withheld the fact that he’d seen the body.
DCI Morgan was somewhat doubtful in regards to the authenticity of Mick’s statement, and thus she later confronted Whitney with the damning evidence once more — claiming that her decision to get dressed up and to go out partying after leaving a man dead on the kitchen floor could be enough to charge her with murder.
Will Whitney go to prison?
The evidence certainly isn’t looking good.
EastEnders continues Thursday 27 February at 7:30p on BBC One.
