David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) fears that his beloved wife Shona (Julia Goulding) is going to die following the recent shooting on Coronation Street – as she has taken a turn for the worse and suffered a cardiac arrest during surgery.
At first, after Shona was shot while hiding to spring a surprise on David, the family were relieved when she was able to speak and communicate with them. It seemed she was over the worst and doctors reported that she had come through her operation fine.
However, when she suddenly passed out in David’s arms, he panicked and doctors realised that she had suffered some bleeding and this might impact on her brain long term. Things got even worse when the breathing tube was removed and Shona was unable to survive without it.
As David watched with horror as nurses piled in and worked on Shona, he later got the bad news that she may never woke up as she may have suffered from serious brain damage. As David is now left on tenterhooks, facing the loss of a second wife, Shona’s life is on the line.
The storyline is leading to an exit for Julia, who recently filmed her final scenes before giving birth. Whether or not her departure is permanent or whether Shona will eventually come through this remains to be seen.
But having already lost Kylie in a violent attack, David may not be able to take further tragedy as he heads to the brink.
Meanwhile, the shooting has had major consequences on others as Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) is dead and the police have a srious interest in Gary Windass (Mikey North), especially after Ali Neeson (James Burrow) reported his involvement.
Will he be forced to pay the price for his part in the tragedy that may have spelled the end for Shona?
