Leyla Cavanagh (Roxy Shahidi) looked set to spiral with her drug use after ranting at husband Liam (Jonny McPherson) in tonight’s Emmerdale.
Viewers saw Leyla and Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) taking cocaine together after securing a lucrative business deal at The Hide. With Leyla thrilled over their success, she was excited when Suzy got hold of the drugs from her dealer, Callum.
‘I’ve been waiting for this all day,’ Leyla said as she snatched the bag of powder, causing Suzy to remark that she was getting greedier every week.
Having taken the drugs, Leyla and Suzy continued their celebrations, leaving fellow colleague Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) to toast the new Take A Vow deal in the Woolpack without them.
Leyla’s excitement showed no signs of dimming as she talked incessantly about impressing new client Eddie with their grand ideas. It was clear the drugs had taken effect, but as she and Suzy headed back to the office, Leyla insisted they took another line of coke.
Suzy was less bothered about needing another hit, which suggested that she may currently be sticking to occasional use. Yet Leyla seems to be relying more and more on the high the substance is bringing her.
As Suzy’s love interest Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) arrived at the office, Leyla was just gearing up to take her next dose of drugs and had talked Suzy into joining her. There was a scramble to hide the evidence as Leyla jumped up on the desk to cover up the cocaine, and Vanessa could tell something was going on.
But the pair managed to convince her that they were just finalising some paperwork after their successful meeting. As Suzy told Vanessa she would catch up with her shortly, she eventually left Leyla alone in favour of a romantic night – hinting that Leyla should do the same and celebrate with Liam at home.
Champagne in hand, Leyla did just that, rushing to tell Liam about the events of that day – minus the drugs, of course. Her husband was amused by her energy as she offered him a drink and tried to seduce him, but he explained that he was going to bed as he had an early start the next day.
Instantly, Leyla’s happy mood soured as she sent some harsh words Liam’s way, branding him a ‘boring old fart’ and dismissing his objections.
Over at Vanessa’s, she and Suzy were heading up to the bedroom for the first time – so the latter missed a voicemail from Leyla pleading with her to save her from her boredom.
With Leyla so determined to party, is she in danger of leaving Liam behind as she relies more and more on Suzy – and the drugs – for a good time?
And just how far will her reliance on cocaine go?
