Simpsons producer spots massive error in iconic scene – decades after it aired

Most people try to play-down their professional errors.

But one of The Simpsons’ executive producers has owned his own gaffe – after spotting it during an episode’s live broadcast.

Matt Selman, 46, who’s worked on the smash-hit show since the late 1990s, took to Twitter on Wednesday after watching episode 13 of season six.

Entitled ‘And Maggie Makes Three’, it sees Marge tell Homer that she’s pregnant with their third child, Maggie.

However, an image of the as-yet-unborn child is already seen hanging on the wall.

Uploading a screengrab of the moment, he captioned it: ‘Maggie is in photo on wall behind Marge telling Homer she’s pregnant with Maggie’.

The searingly honest post quickly racked-up more than 53,000 likes and 12,000 shares from fans and critics alike.

Fortunately, it also generated some comedy comebacks from his co-creators.

"I hope you’re happy because we just fired SEVENTEEN people for that blunder. Fired. Through. Done," said Al Jean, a fellow executive producer.

One fan replied: "No don’t! It’s obviously Lisa! Maggie just wears hand-me-downs!".

Then, actress Yeardley Smith, who provides the voice of Lisa, said: "Oooops."

Previously, Selman has said of his work on The Simpsons: "The hardest thing is we have to try and make each episode as good as everything that’s come before it.

"We have a legacy of greatness, and you don’t want to be the person that ruins The Simpsons ."

In his earlier years Selman worked on both Ellen and Seinfeld, plus The Angry Birds Movie.
