Sharp Objects season 2 isn't "off the table", but will Amy Adams and co come back for more?

After a thrilling few weeks, the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel Sharp Objects drew to a stunning – and unsettling – conclusion last night (August 26).

The HBO drama, which has been praised for its spin on the source material, concluded with Amy Adams’ Camille Preaker discovering the person behind the murders that have haunted her family.

In a chilling moment involving a dolls’ house and human teeth, Camille soon realises that, far from it being her mother Adora (Patricia Clarkson), the killer is actually her sister Amma.

So, with an admittedly open ending and a (very) well-received first season, will Sharp Objects be back for another run – and will Amy Adams be back along with it?

Although season two isn’t completely off the table, according to showrunner Marti Noxon, it is currently “a long shot” logistically.

“It’s off the table in terms of, people are going on to their next projects, and it was a pretty hard A-team to assemble,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s not hard to imagine from a story standpoint, because obviously we love these characters, but from a technical standpoint it seems like a long shot.”

While speaking about Sharp Objects‘ climax and what it means for Camille, Marti conceded there was “a big question mark” looming over her next steps.

“There’s a big question mark about what Camille is going to do with this revelation about Amma, but to me, she’s made stronger by the truth,” she said.

“The Camille at the end of the series feels a little more adult, and present in her own life”.

That’s grounds for a second season if we ever saw it.

Sharp Objects aired on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK. It’s also available to stream on NOW TV.
