Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) recently started a new job in Coronation Street. While she jumped at the chance of earning more cash, her new line of work involves working with Henry Newton, her ex-boyfriend.
Henry also happens to be part of the family who own the brewery firm, Newton and Ridley and in upcoming episodes, with the future of the pub up in the air, Gemma wonders if she should use her history with Henry to her advantage to try and save the beloved boozer.
After Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) and Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) attempt to host an event to try and impress the Newtons, Henry gently breaks the news to Jenny that having looked at the accounts, the brewery isn’t prepared to buy the Rovers and hands her the contact details of a developer.
As Jenny updates Daisy on the news, Steve (Simon Gregson) and George (Tony Maudsley) are in the Kabin chatting about a crowdfunding page they’ve set up to try and save the pub.
George suggests to Gemma that given her history with Henry, she could try and change his mind about buying the place.
Gemma then heads to a hotel expecting to work on a cider promotion, but Henry ends up admitting that there is no promotion and he just wanted some alone time.
Elsewhere, George lets slip to Chesney (Sam Aston) that Gemma is meeting Henry and is going to try and work her magic on him.
Chesney’s anger grows and he heads over to the hotel to confront them both, but what will he find?
And will Gemma’s plan work?
Will she save the pub?
‘I think the Rovers for him, as well as it for many of Corrie’s viewers, holds a special place in his heart’, George Banks explained, discussing whether Henry could actually end up buying the pub.
‘He has a lot of fond memories, he enjoys going to a place that his granddad Cecil loved as well. And actually, I think there’s a fondness for his granddad and the Rovers too, It has some really powerful memories for him and I don’t think he had realised that until now.
‘It’s a place that he holds quite dear. So yeah, I think he is genuinely interested in trying to help, I’m not sure he is thinking about the business side and his heart is ruling his head a bit.’
